The Edwardian Mourning Shawl.

I have finished my 1906 Edwardian shawl.  I made this shawl earlier in madder red and walnut brown and was very pleased with the result. The only problem was that the colors didn't go with my Victorian and Edwardian costumes, so I made this practical black (and light weight) version.

I call this shawl the mourning shawl as both versions have been made while I was saying goodbye to a loved one, the first version was while waiting for my husbands grandmother to pass. This time we had heard that our cat was suffering from cancer and nothing could be done for her anymore. In times of sadness I need to keep my hands busy.

This morning our little furry lady passed away surround by the people that adored her and that she loved so much. We are sad that she is gone but grateful for 14 years of love, friendship and companionship.

You have my sympathy on the loss of your beloved cat. My Sugar will be 21 this February and is getting very thin, but she is still as affectionate and fond of people (not just me and my husband!) as ever. I dread the thought of her passing, but it probably will come sooner, rather than later, in light of her advanced age and known kidney problems.

Thank you for your symphaty, we are all still very broken up about it. 21 is a very high age for a cat but I hope Sugar still has some time in relatively good health left. It seems that costuming people are often also cat people.

Yes! Most of the costumers who write about their pets are, indeed, cat people with one or more cats.

I think that's because cats love fabric just as much as we do ;-)

Our bunny only cares about things she can chew on and she is not allowed to chew holes in my fabrics.
