Trip Denmark 2012; Ribe - Home

Before saying our final goodbye to Ribe. We went to the Ribe VikingeCenter for some more shopping....

I had been thinking about buying the book Viking by Nille Glaesel the whole vacation. And  finally decided to buy it. Eventhough it was way out of my budget. Ofcourse both men left with something from the museumshop as well. A  little less expensive things though!

We to a long break in Schleswig, Germany to visit  the viking market. It was raining and the market was very crowed so we didn't take any pictures.

And after a lot of more hours in the car, it was home sweet home.

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. I'd like to visit Ribe myself, sometime.

I do not expect to be able to purchase Nille Glaesel's book in the near future, but I'd love to know what you think about it once you've read it.

  2. @Cathy It is really expensive! I have only browsed through it so far. Although I like it, I would not recommend it to you. The costumes she describes are "generic" viking, not region specific. And I have some problems with her theories. Like for instance she sees the viking wearing kilts on the oseberg tapestry where I see the wide viking trousers without leg wraps.
She uses front and back gores in some of here dress reconstructions because the Herjolfsnes drsses had them.
Although I do understand her reasoning, I do not agree with her.

  3. Thanks for your comments about Nille Glaesel's book.

I had formed a similar impression from third-hand information I'd seen about the book (such as book reviews) and from looking at Ms. Glaesel's website, but I haven't had a chance to do more than flip through a copy of the book for more than a few seconds, so I appreciate having the opinion of an experienced costumer and reenactor about it.
